Through its Testing and Inspection services, the Namibian standards Institution (NSI) delivers reliable conformity assessment solutions that promote public health, consumer protection, regulatory compliance, export facilitation and improved market access. These services are delivered through specialised inspection functions supported by NSI’s Chemistry & Microbiology Testing Laboratories.
The Testing Centre division provides chemical and microbiological analytical testing services for food, water, and environmental hygiene monitoring samples. The division offers testing services primarily for fish and fishery products, canned products, shellfish, potable water (including bottled water), seawater, effluent/ wastewater and environmental hygiene swabs. The laboratory serves various industries including fishing, aquaculture, agri-food, hospitality, mining, manufacturing and related industries. All testing activities are conducted in accordance with recognised national and international standards to ensure accuracy, reliability, and confidence in results.
The NSI Inspection division conducts inspection services for land-based factories and fishing vessels. Inspection services are offered in three main categories i.e. Inspection of food safety system of facilities and vessels, Product Inspections by means of physical and sensory evaluation of salted, chilled and frozen fish products and canned fish and canned/pouched meat products and Product Certification. The division further provides food safety technical support to the fishing and mariculture sectors, supporting compliance with regulatory and export requirements.
The NSI Testing and Inspection services contributes to food safety assurance, environmental protection, and product quality, while enabling Namibian industries to meet national regulations and international market standards, creating a conducive environment for trade.
