The Metrology Department serves as the National Metrology Institute (NMI) and the Legal Metrology Authority (LMA) of Namibia, ensuring that measurements used throughout the country are accurate, reliable, internationally traceable, and compliant with the Metrology Act, 2022 (Act No. 5 of 2022). Scientific and Industrial Metrology Services
The primary service of the Scientific Metrology includes the establishment, maintenance, and development of internationally traceable measurement standards. The national measurement standards maintained by the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI) provide the highest level of measurement accuracy in Namibia. These standards ensure traceability to the International System of Units (SI), supporting reliable measurements, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and international trade.
